So much wickedness.

So much wickedness.

Known as The French Ripper, Joseph Vacher was born on November 16, 1869.  The youngest of fifteen children, not much is known about his childhood. He is often compared to Jack the Ripper due to his methods of killing.
It has been said that Vacher might have killed his first victim when he was just 15 years old.  He allegedly raped and killed a 10 year old boy but this was vague in detail.
He had attempted to kill himself twice. The first was while he was serving in the military.  He tried to slit his throat as an act of protest because he believed that his efforts were not being recognized by the military.  His second attempt at suicide was after he proposed to a servant girl named Louise Barrand.  Louise rejected his offer and proceeded to mocking him.  This enraged Vacher and shot her but his gun misfired.  Before he was apprehended, he shot himself in the head but this did not kill him.  The bullet, though, remained lodged in his skull and this caused the right side of his face to be paralyzed.  He also sustained mental instability. He was committed in a mental asylum only to be released a year later.
It was after his release that he began going around begging and stealing in order to survive.  He also went on to murdering people as he went along his path. He would slit the throat of his victims and go about to raping or sodomizing the corpse.  He would then cut open their torsos and disembowel them.
Vacher killed and mutilated a total of eleven people. His killing spree ended when he tried to attack a woman who was gathering wood.  Her screams quickly alerted her husband and son and they came and overpowered Vacher.
The police knew very well that Vacher was the serial killer but they couldn’t really link Vacher to the murders. However, surprisingly enough, Vacher confessed to all the murders without any explanation.
He took a gander at the insanity plea, blaming his actions to a rabid dog who supposedly bit him as a child. He was convinced that it poisoned his blood and this was also the reason why he had the urge to drink blood from the necks of his victims.
After just two days of trial, Joseph Vacer was found sane and guilty and was sentenced to death by guillotine.
During the trial, in order to convince the people he was indeed insane, he shouted out “Glory to Jesus! Long live Joan of Arc! Glory to the great martyr of our time! Glory to the great saviour!” as if attributing his vicious crimes as a means to serve God.

  • Interviewer: What do you think when you see a pretty girl walking down the street?

After my head has been chopped off, will I still be able to hear, at least for a moment, the sound of my own blood gushing from my neck? That would be the pleasure to end all pleasures. Peter Kurten
Peter Kürten dubbed The Vampire of Düsseldorf was born on May 26, 1883.  Like most serial killers, he had a rough childhood having 12 siblings and a father who constantly abused and raped his mother and sisters.  He also suffered several beatings throughout his childhood.
As a kid, he made friends with a local dog-catcher who taught him how to masturbate and torture dogs. It is believed that he also engaged in bestiality during this part of his life.

His sexual urges developed rapidly, and within five years he was committing bestiality with sheep and goats in nearby stables. It was soon after that he “became aware of the pleasure of the sight of blood” and he began to torture animals, achieving orgasm stabbing pigs and sheep.
The terrible pattern of his life was forming. It only needed one more depraved influence to transfer his sadistic urges from animals to human beings. He found it in a prostitute, twice his age, a masochist who enjoyed being ill-treated and abused. His sadistic education was complete and they lived together for some time. (source)

As a grown-up, Peter confessed to having committed his first actual murder when he was 9 years old. He drowned two of his friends while they were swimming by holding their heads underwater until they died.
His first provable murder, however, was that of 13-year-old Khristine Klein during a burglary gone wrong.  Peter sexually assaulted the girl and then killed her. Peter would be in and out of prison for several years but not because of murders but because of theft, arson and minor sexual assaults.
One of the more sadistic murders he committed was that of the Lenzen foster sisters Gertrude (5 years old) and Louise (14 years old). Peter asked Louise to buy him cigarettes and while she was away, he raped Gertrude then cut open her throat. When Louise returned, she suffered a similar fate and was decapitated.
According to a later interview by Dr. Karl Berg:

Peter’s primary motive was one of sexual pleasure. The number of stab wounds varied because it sometimes took longer to achieve orgasm; the sight of blood was integral to his sexual stimulation. (source)

He had a wife but he confessed that she was merely a companion. He gets his sexual desires taken care off by killing people.  He would also often return to the scene of the crime because this, too, give him sexual gratification.
These murders would continue until November 1929 but because of the inconsistency in Peter’s choice of victims and weapons, the authorities believed that there were several killers.
After the November murder, Peter still continued raping and assaulting women beating them up with a hammer but not entirely killing them in the process. On May 14, 1930, Peter committed two fatal mistakes.  He “saved” a woman named Maria Budlick from a stranger and brought her to his home which would be his first mistake. He fed her but later took her into the woods where he raped her.  The second mistake was that he didn’t kill her. On May 24, Peter was arrested.
He confessed to 79 offenses and was charged with 9 counts of murder and 7 counts of attempted murder.  He was found guilty and was given the death sentence. On July 2, 1931, Peter Kürten was executed by guillotine.

What I did was not for sexual pleasure. Rather it brought me some peace of mind. — Andrei Chikatilo
Andrei Chikatilo (nicknamed as the Butcher of Rostov, The Red Ripper or The Rostov Ripper) is a ‘Soviet serial killer’. His crimes were so gruesome that some of his western contemporaries would pale in comparison to him. He killed over 52 people most of which are children and women.

Andrei’s childhood was rather traumatic due to the frequent bombing raids by German forces. As a result, he developed a certain hatred for Germans and often fantasized about capturing some and leading them into the woods to execute them. He was also forced to share his mother’s bed during his youth, but frequently wet it and received brutal beatings. At the age of fifteen, he wrestled a young girl to the ground and had an orgasm, supposedly imprinting a relationship between violence and sexuality in his mind.

It was in 1978, where Andrei committed what he claims was his first murder. He brought a nine-year-old girl to an abandoned shed, where he attempted to rape her and since he had a history of impotence, he couldn’t achieve an erection so he pulled out a knife and began stabbing her, ejaculating in the process and further imprinting the association of violence and murder with sexual pleasure.

Andrei had a degree in Literature, and he managed to get teaching jobs although he proved to be a poor instructor.  He would also often be accused of molesting his students but he was never relieved of his teaching duties until 1981.
His next murder would be in September 1981. Reminiscent of his first murder, Andrei intended to rape the victim but failed to achieve an erection once again so he beat her brutally with a stick all the while having orgasms.
Andrei often preyed on prostitutes and runaways he found on bus stations and railways. He lured them to remote places with the promise of money, alcohol etc. Many of his victims were found lacking their sexual organs.  One female victim was even missing a nipple which Andrei would later confess to having bitten it off and swallowed it for sexual gratification. His male victims, however, would be treated in a different manner. Andrei often fantasized about keeping them for a “police interrogation” in which he was the hero who captured them.  He would then cut off their penis and tongue.
He had always been a suspect of these murders but due to lack of evidence, the police failed to arrest him.

On November 6, 1990, he was stopped by police while returning from a murder in the woods, but allowed to leave. On November 20th, he was arrested again for suspicious behavior and intensely interrogated. He eventually confessed to 56 different murders over his lifetime. After leading police to numerous graves of victims, Andrei was charged with 53 different counts of murder. (source)

During his trial, he was locked in an iron cage in the middle of the courtroom so as to protect him from the families of his victims. He showed erratic behavior all throughout his trial. On separate events, he claimed that he was pregnant and was lactating.  He also claimed that he was being radiated. He even broke out into a song and had to be dismissed from the courtroom.
Despite his lawyer’s insanity claim, he was found sane and guilty. On February 14, 1994, he was taken to a special soundproof room and was executed with a single gunshot behind his right ear.
